Carphone Warehouse offers free laptops with Virgin Media XL

Garnet Roach garnet@consumerchoices.co.uk

Customers signing up to Virgin Media’s XL broadband bundle in Carphone Warehouse stores will currently receive a free laptop as well (08-10-08).

The deal is not available to customers who sign up directly with Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) for the bundle including up to 20Mb broadband, XL digital television, with more than 145 channels, and the XL phone package with unlimited anytime calls to UK landlines.

"This is about as close to a genuinely free laptop as you’re going to get"

The bundle costs £49 a month (rising to £56 a month after six months), but customers signing up in Carphone Warehouse stores will receive a Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop at no extra charge (though a fee might be applied for delivery and installation).

The laptop is worth £440 and comes with Windows Vista, an Intel Pentium Dual Core processor, 120GB Hard Disk, 15.4 inch LCD Screen and a built-in webcam.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “This really is a great offer. Unlike most of these ‘free laptop’ offers, customers signing up to the same package direct with Virgin Media pay the exact same monthly price as those getting a free laptop in Carphone Warehouse stores.

“This is about as close to a genuinely free laptop as you’re going to get,” he concluded.

1 person has commented on Carphone Warehouse offers free laptops with Virgin Media XL.

  1. Spent total of 70 minutes talking to one of the staff , and I told him I presently had Sky+ , with and broadband/phone package from virgin media, was looking to move to the XL package, plus V+ and Sky Sports. Said I was an existing customer. Agreed an agreement to have the XL package installed along with V+ and Sky Sports. He took all my details, and then awaited a credit check. Eventually, a message appeared on screen asking me to contact customer services, and was told that as I was an existing customer, could not apply for the offer!!!!!
I spent a total of 70 minutes of wasted time, because the saleschap was unaware of the restriction! I would of thought that virginmedia would be pleased I was prepared to leave Sky and bring my business to them!
I am seriously thinking about now closing my existing cable agreement and moving to a firm who cares about customer satisfaction!
    Disgusted,
    Mr. L.C. Farthing
