About Greenbee Broadband

John Lewis and Waitrose have become trusted names, known for their quality and service, and Waitrose already offers its own broadband service.

Now the John Lewis Partnership has launched a range of services such as insurance, travel and telecoms under the Greenbee brand, replacing Waitrose’s own broadband packages for new customers.

The Greenbee Broadband service

Greenbee (www.Greenbee.com) offers just one standalone broadband package, offering speeds of up to 8Mb, with a 5GB download allowance for £17.99 a month on an 12 month contract.

It also comes with a free wired router, free parental controls and, as is becoming increasingly important, free 24-hour technical support.

It also offers a standalone home phone service for £16.99 a month including line rental and mobile calls for only 9p a minute to any network. Bundling your home phone with your broadband can save you money.

Greenbee’s home phone and broadband bundle costs £29.99 and includes the 8Mb broadband package, free local and national calls at any time and line rental.

Additional usage over the 5GB monthly download limit is charged at £2 per GB. Each customer can log into a secure area to see exactly how much of their monthly allowance they have left and Greenbee will even email you to warn you if you’re nearing your limit.

Greenbee broadband awards & accreditations

There are currently no published awards for the Greenbee service, though it did receive a 75 per cent customer satisfaction rating from Which? falling short on value for money but getting full marks for customer service and technical support.

Our expert’s verdict

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “Greenbee (www.Greenbee.com) broadband is targeted at users who want a trusted, reliable name - like the John Lewis brand.

“However, Greenbee is by no means the most competitively priced product on the market, and with speeds of up to 8Mb and a very low download allowance of just 5GB a month, customers could get much more for their money elsewhere.

O2 Broadband (www.O2.co.uk) has won a host of awards for its service - including coming top in all seven categories in the BroadbandChoices.co.uk customer satisfaction awards 2011.

“It performed well in Ofcom's speed tests in May 2011 - coming out tops among the copper wire ADSL broadband providers. It offers two speed levels - up to 8Mb and 20Mb - and truly unlimited downloads on its top two packages. Existing customers can get discounts on their home broadband too.”
