About AOL broadband

AOL has been offering broadband for more than 10 years and has over 1.7 million customers across the UK. It currently offers three broadband packages: broadband only, broadband and calls, and broadband, calls and line rental.

Find out what AOL customers think of their provider on our AOL broadband review page.

The AOL broadband service

AOL (www.AOLbroadband.co.uk) broadband packages all come with a minimum 18-month contract.

Download speeds of up to 24Mb are available to customers who take AOL's broadband, calls and line rental package. For the broadband and calls, and broadband only packages, customers will receive up to 8Mb speeds. All packages offer a 10GB usage allowance.

Install our free Broadband Download Monitor to make sure you never exceed your 10GB monthly allowance.

AOL broadband regional pricing

AOL applies “regional pricing” to packages outside of its local loop unbundled (LLU) areas. Although AOL is working to expand its LLU network, customers currently living outside of these areas will have to pay an extra £5 a month for their broadband.

AOL Broadband benefits

All AOL Broadband packages come with a free wireless router.

AOL also offers telephone customer support seven days a week - free if you are calling from an AOL Talk line, and has a range of help articles available on its website.

AOL Broadband awards & accreditations

Customer Service - Winner
  • Winner - Customer Service/Technical Support - Broadbandchoices.co.uk 2010 Customer Satisfaction Survey (Bundled services)
  • Best Short-contract Broadband - Top 10 Broadband awards 2008

However, AOL has also received some recent negative awards. In the Which? broadband satisfaction survey 2011, AOL was noted as a broadband provider to avoid receiving a customer score of just 27%.

Our expert’s verdict

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “AOL Broadband (www.AOLbroadband.co.uk) is best suited to low level users.

“However, providers such as Plusnet Broadband (www.Plus.net) and O2 Broadband (www.O2.co.uk) offer cheaper packages and both have won a range of awards in recent years for their reliable services and customers satisfaction.”
