Question: Which Virgin broadband is best? I find it hard to choose between sizes L, XL and XXL.
Answer: Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) broadband deals now come in four sizes: L, XL and XXL and its 100Mb package which is rolling out across the network and is due to be completed by mid-2012. The key difference between each package comes down to speed. Our best buy table compares Virgin broadband packages and speeds. Press the GO button to visit Virgin Media.

Virgin broadband packages come in four sizes: L, XL and XXL and 100Mb. Size L delivers broadband speeds up to 10Mb per second. Size XL is faster, at 30Mb. Size XXL delivers up to 50Mb, and its 100Mb connection - along with BT's 100Mb offering - delivers the fastest commercially available broadband in the UK. Virgin Media is also upgrading its network so by 2013 the speed of its 10Mb and 30Mb broadband connections will be doubled, and its 50Mb and 100Mb connections will both be increased to 120Mb. All Virgin packages come with unlimited downloads, a free wireless router and customer support when you need it, online and on the phone.
Virgin Media uses fibre optic cables to deliver its broadband so the actual speed customers receive are close to the "up to" speeds advertised, so even on its 10Mb package, actual speeds received are usually over 9Mb which is nearly 25% higher than the national average according to the latest Ofcom speed tests. Go for Size L if you only make moderate use of the Internet. Speeds in this ballpark are more than adequate for catching up with the news online, posting status updates on Facebook, writing emails and streaming the odd programme on iPlayer.
Sizes XL and XXL will work better for you if you download a lot, are an avid gamer or want your downloads superfast. Faster broadband speeds can also make watching HD TV online more enjoyable. Last but not least, you should think about how many people will be sharing your connection - if you have a large family, or live in a student house, faster speeds will mean no-one's connection suffers if more of you are online at the same time.
