BT broadband availability

Answer: Standard BT Broadband (www.BT.com) connections come through your phone line so, if you have a BT phone socket in your house, and an active phone line, you will probably be able to receive BT broadband.

If you don’t already have a socket, BT should be able to fit one - its network covers 98% of the UK.

While the vast majority of the UK can get a broadband connection from BT, the further you live from your local telephone exchange, the slower your will be. BT offers speeds of up to 16Mb but actual speeds are often slower, averaging around 7Mb across the UK.

You might also be able to benefit from BT Infinity, the ISP’s new superfast broadband network that uses the latest fibre optic technology to offer speeds of up to 38Mb. This network was launched to around 500,000 homes and businesses at the start of 2010 and BT aims to make Infinity available to 40% of the homes in the UK by summer 2012.
