Vodafone has followed 3’s lead in launching a mobile wifi router that can connect multiple devices to the internet.
The mobile wifi router, which isn’t available in the UK yet, allows users to create their own wireless hotspot, connecting up to five devices to the mobile broadband network at once.
Devices must be within 10 meters from the router, but allows users to connect mobile phones, MP3 players and even digital camera that are wireless enabled - as well as traditional mobile broadband devices such as netbooks and laptops.
“The Vodafone Mobile Broadband Hotspot offers mobile professionals, students and families a one-touch connectivity solution that turns Wi-Fi enabled devices such as MP3 players and laptops into connected mobile internet devices,” said Huw Medcraft, Vodafone Broadband (www.Vodafone.co.uk) mobile broadband director.
“This product brings even more flexibility to our customers, and ensures that Vodafone’s market leading mobile broadband can be rolled out to even more devices to give customers greater convenience.”
The hotspot device will initially be available in Germany, Romania and Spain.
3 Broadband (www.Three.co.uk) recently announced its own mobile wifi device - the first to be made available in the UK. Its mobile wifi packages will go live later this week.
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “The next generation of mobile broadband devices will act as hotspots, allowing users to connect any wireless-enabled devices.
“However, users will still be subject to strict download limits, and could soon find themselves exceeding their allowance if they regularly share their connection. Mobile wifi users should keep a close eye on their download allowance,” he advised.
