Star ratings and reviews

Our provider star ratings are sourced directly from our Broadband Customer Satisfaction Survey. Customers were asked to grade their broadband provider on a scale from 'Very Satisfied' to 'Not at all satisfied' across six criteria: Reliability, Download times, Value for money, Customer service, Activation speed (how quickly their service was activated after they subscribed) and Clarity of billing. A broadband provider's "overall rating" is a simple average of these six ratings.

For each provider, our journalists selected a representative sample of customer reviews. Their reviews are shown as-is and are not edited. Both good and bad, we trust they will provide you with a balanced take on each broadband provider.

I have left sky because of their appaling reliability and customer service...not to mention the telephone problems they gave us, saying that there was a problem with our line (when there was none) and trying to charge you for an engineers visit...
Speed: 0.5Mb...about 4 times slower than the basic BT broadband

Reliability: 0 points

Customer service: 0 points, typical "trouble shooting" strategy: there's a problem with you line, we'll have to charge you £100 for an engineers visit

Billing: price constantly creeps up without any kind of explanation on their part

VPN: not accessible, no matter what setting you use.

I am now with BT and so happy, 2Mb speed, prompt customer service, so far reliable...and guess what...I can access my VPN !!...and all that for 25% les cost!

Stay well away from Sky !

BT's broadband is frustratingly bad!...and they charge the highest rates! AVOID!
They also refuse to provide valid MAC Key when you want to leave! The CS staff are stubborn and bigoted. They have fleeced me and I am still trapped!

I recently swapped from 3 mobile broadband to O2. I wish I hadn't they have no coverage in the 2 main places I need to use it and won't refund (I only checked after 30 days so they are within their rights).
However, their customer service has been attrocious since, and I object to their claim to being "better connected".

It's not a lot of money, but by dismissing me out of hand, they've guaranteed that I'll cancel my mobile contract when it is up for renewal

I am with o2 broadband last 4 years and I was too happy.Unfortunately I contracted with Orange february 2011. They offer me up to 20.Within 4 months I contacted more than 25 times to Orange for network problems.I never recomend to Orange broadband.Only one thing is doing perfectly ,that is DIRECT DEBIT...... - May 29 2011 9:59AM

Is this web site for real???!!! I have virgin broadband for the past 8 months and everyday I get countless dropped connections. When I contacted the Virgin customer service all they advise is to unplug and replug the modem which works however I'm really fed up with unplugging 30 times a day. The 50mb plan I'm on is very costly and not really worth it as I only get the 49mb speed when plugged in via ethernet cable, with the wireless I barely get 10mb in my living room and 3mb in my garden; to top it off the virgin installation team could not run the fiber optic to my ideal location but instead ran a hideous cable outside my house and placed it in my front upstairs bedroom which is away from my living areas. Virgin really deserves 0 stars and I actually thought BT was horrible...boy was I wrong!!! The best broadband company I was with is BE Broadband with exceptional customer service that really cared! PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR TALKTALK, If I could leave 0 stars I would for everything! I had a fault that they could not fix, 3 months of hell, departments don't TALK to each other, broken promises, very poor customer support. You speak to a different person every call that is sometimes reading from a script and can't understand your questions. They don't know what they are talking about. They promised a refund, I didn't get it. Poor quality broadband, extremely slow if working at all, sometimes not even a dial tone! What a bunch of useless Muppets. DON'T TALK TALK, WALK WALK. I couldn't face wasting my time, being lied to and treated with contempt anymore so I went with BT :) My broadband is fast and reliable and my phone line is prefect quality all of a sudden, funny that isn't it? - Feb 11 2011 1:02PM
BT is a poor service and OFCOM are not fit for purpose OFCOM are a firm with no power to help you you or you Companies that donot give the service you are paying for do get away with most things because they know OFCOM is just a body without power. BT is a useless british firm like British Gas British Steel British Rail and most customers in this Country are getting a raw deal. - Jan 21 2011 4:12PM
