BT reducing wholesale broadband prices

(10-04-07) - BT has confirmed that it will reduce the price of its broadband wholesale products from May 1st 2007. (visit www.bt.com)

The reductions mean that ISPs that purchase broadband connections from BT Wholesale and re-sell customers will see a reduction in the rate they have to pay for each connection. Whether this reduction is then passed on to the customer is up to the individual ISPs.

From May 1st, ISPs that use BT IPstream (BT Wholesale’s most-used product) will see their monthly rates reduced by 9%: from £8.40 per month to £7.63. There will be further reductions for high-density exchanges, as the cost of providing broadband in these areas is cheaper per customer.

BT Wholesale currently offers the highest stable broadband speeds in the UK and plans to introduce speeds of up to 24Mbps in 2008, with a new service called Wholesale Broadband Connect.

Cameron Rejali, managing director for products and strategy at BT Wholesale, said: “The new pricing will deliver significant cost savings to our service provider customers and underlines BT’s commitment to maintaining a competitive broadband market. Combined with the price reductions announced today and our focus on quality of service, we believe that our plans for Wholesale Broadband Connect will allow our service provider customers to compete effectively in the broadband market.”
