The Home Hub is the free wireless router that BT (www.BT.com) - one of the UK’s biggest broadband providers - sends out to new customers signing up to any of its broadband packages.
BT Broadband’s (www.BT.com) next generation, “N” technology Home Hub is included with all broadband packages for customers new to BT broadband. The BT Home Hub is designed to detect and avoid Wi-Fi interference and it will constantly monitor the chosen wireless channel and automatically switch to a new one if there's too much interference.
As well as avoiding interference, the new Home Hub offers a better, more reliable connection so you won’t lose your wireless broadband signal while surfing the net out in the garden.
It comes with the latest WPA encryption technology to make sure that your network is as secure as possible, as well as a built-in firewall.
BT said it has made the set-up process easier than ever, and have even installed a Power Save mode to help you “do your bit for the environment as well as saving on your energy bill”. By turning the wireless signal off automatically when not in use, the new Home Hub saves energy by up to 20 per cent, according to BT.
Using the Home Hub allows you to connect multiple computers - and phones - throughout the house to your BT Broadband connection wirelessly.
BT’s new version is more reliable and has a better range than most wireless routers provided by ISPs as it uses the new “N” wireless technology.
And as well as being more secure and simpler to install, it also has a host of new features such as a Power Save mode and a new “find handsets” button to call any phones you have connected to your Home Hub - so no more searching for your handsets.
BT customers using the Home Hub can also connect a Hub Phone which slots nearly into your Home Hub. The Hub Phone allows you to make evening and weekend calls at no extra cost, and cheap calls at other times over your broadband connection. It features high definition sound, a built-in contacts list and supports caller ID and call waiting.
BT Broadband (www.BT.com) is one of the UK’s most popular broadband providers with more than 6 million customers and a range of broadband, home phone, digital TV and wireless bundles.
You can only connect to your BT broadband using the Home Hub wireless router, which is free on all packages.
If you are already a BT customer but want to upgrade to the new BT Home Hub you can get it for half price on the BT website (www.BT.com), or buy one directly from the BT online shop.
