Sky Broadband fixed IP

Answer: An IP address is a code that identifies your computer whenever you go online. Every device that accesses the internet needs an IP address, but it doesn't have to be the same one every time. Some internet providers offer a fixed IP address (sometimes known as a static IP), which means that it will be the same every time you go online and can permanently identify your computer.

It is cheaper and more convenient for most internet providers to assign you a different IP address each time you access the internet. An IP address assigned like this is called a dynamic IP, and this is the method Sky Broadband (www.Sky.com) uses.

Getting a fixed IP address is a good idea if you want to run your own website from your computer, or you want to operate a gaming server or access your computer remotely.
