BT Total broadband uses the BT Home Hub - which you get when you sign up - to give you fast, reliable wireless broadband throughout your home. The packages available range from a light-use option - for surfing the web and checking emails - to one with “unlimited broadband” downloads, subject to a fair usage policy, which perfect for online gaming and live music and video streaming.
The BT Total Broadband service provides download speeds of up to 20Mb - though the actual connection speed you receive will depend on your location, your home's distance from the local BT exchange, and the quality of the wiring inside your home.
BT Total Broadband also enables you to automatically back up important files and use the worldwide wifi network for free when you're away from home. BT also provides some excellent anti-virus and anti-spam measures, and there is a firewall built into the Home Hub's technology.
To switch to BT, you will need a MAC code from your current supplier. Your home will also need an active BT line - most homes will have a BT socket already installed but it might not be active. If it's not, speak to BT about re-activating the line. In some cases there might be an added cost for doing this.
The set-up, installation and use of BT Total Broadband is designed to be as simple as possible, but you can ask for a BT engineer to visit and install the equipment for you, or benefit from ongoing 24 hour technical support, at an extra cost.
