Sky doesn’t offer standalone broadband, but customers who want, or already have, Sky TV can advantage of its award winning broadband service.
Sky offers three broadband packages that can be combined with Sky’s digital TV service and its relatively new home phone packages.
Although some other providers have very generous fair usage policies, Sky is the only ISP to offer a truly unlimited broadband service - customers on its top plan are technically free to download as much as they want without limit.
However, Sky isn’t the fastest broadband provider - even on its Max package - as top speeds are rarely, if ever, reached. This means that although other providers might have a fair usage limit on their broadband packages, a quicker connection might get you more, faster.
Sky Broadband customers have the option to add a Sky Talk home phone plan to their bill - and can save money on their broadband by doing so.
Sky’s range of broadband packages includes “free broadband” and the UK’s only truly unlimited download allowance.
However, because Sky Broadband is not available as a standalone product, it is only suitable for someone looking to bundle the internet with digital TV and home phone.
On the other hand, Sky does offer a great selection of digital TV channels, including HD programmes and Sky+, which allows users to record, pause and rewind live TV.
Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “Sky is a very consistent ISP. However, while its broadband packages perform reasonably well, they rarely come out on top.
“Although Sky took the number one spot in our 2009 customer satisfaction survey, other bundling providers - such as Virgin Media (www.VirginMedia.com) performed better when it came to broadband speeds.”
