Lately, having problems with the internet. Not happy as I am getting disconnected every few minutes. - Feb 9 2012 2:12AM

Powerline now goes to 200Mbps, with greater speeds in view. But it does require a "clean" electricity supply, not the fag end of a ropey chain. - May 5 2011 1:02PM

The ISPs have been making a great deal of fuss over the amount they have been able to offer.

'Up to 20MB' they scream at us, but they forget that our phone lines and exchanges arnt being upgraded too so it doesnt really affect us in the slightest.

No point 'upgrading' to a sports car that can go 100 mph when your stuck on the same road that restricts speed to 20mph!

I am on a up to 8MB conenction and done everything possible with my own equipment and with my ISP to stop the slump in my speeds which drop after frequent disconnections from 2MB to 0.5MB. They are still there. My ISP have made a big deal about upgrading all customers to 'up 10MB'... shame I cant use it.

I've tried to download using Chrome v5 to no great avail. The "Guide" document appears to be pages of blank paper!! The download seems to fail because of the fonts being used which may not be replace-able in the Reader program.
Using Firefox 3.6.8 it downloads and displays OK.

I am at present in dispute with BT regarding the quoted download speed I should be able to expect when I first enquired about changing to them.
I was quoted 2.0-2.5, not great, but better than I was with my previous ISP and I hoped the service would be more reliable.
The service has been reliable but the speed varies from about 0.6 to 2.4Mb/sec.
It can sometimes be around 2.3-2,4 for days and then drops on average to about 1.9 or lower.
An Openreach engineer has checked my line and found it to be OK, his opinion was there could be a problem in the exchange equipment.
I am going to leave my system for the 8-10 days BT quote for a system to settle down, but I have no faith in getting a steady D/L speed near their quote.
Eventually I am going to persue BT to get a reduction in my monthly internet costs.
Hopefully this new Offcom ruling will give me more ammunition.
Downloaded the guide I must now digest it.

Thanks for your comment. The BBC iPlayer - and Channel 4’s 4oD - no longer use peer to peer software to deliver their content - so you no longer need to update your settings for these programs. However, the Sky Player still uses legal peer to peer technology. Our guide has now been updated to reflect this. - Feb 12 2010 4:30PM

I have just read your very interesting Speding Up Broadband guide. It says that to improve on the BBC’s iPlayer, you simply click on “Settings”, and where it says “Allow P2P Access”, check the box marked “No”. How do I find this box? I did find a Settings box on IPlayer Desktop but it only had General Settings which did not include the one you mentioned. - Jan 27 2010 9:35PM

a waste of time. The max speed on my line is 3Mbs I get less than 2. You can not get a quart out of a pint pot. BT offer upto 20 Mbs until you try to get it upto is only 2Mbs.
I use your speedchecker for over 2 years.
