Independent testing has ranked T-Mobile as the fastest mobile broadband provider in the UK.

Mobile broadband customer experiences were measured during peak hours across 16 UK cities over the last three months by testing house P3 solutions. T-Mobile Broadband (www.T-Mobile.co.uk) was found on aggregate to be the fastest for upload and download speeds as well as for web browsing and sending and receiving emails.

"These independent tests clearly put T-Mobile’s Mobile Broadband network ahead of the pack"

The provider, which offers a range of monthly and pay as you go mobile broadband options, was found to be 25 per cent faster than its nearest rival for accessing the BBC homepage, and 60 per cent faster at uploading photos to Facebook or videos to YouTube.

Emin Gurdenli, chief technology officer, T-Mobile UK, said: “These independent tests clearly put T-Mobile’s Mobile Broadband network ahead of the pack. P3’s benchmarking reveals that our programme of continuous improvement and investment in network performance is delivering a richer experience for our fast-growing base of Mobile Broadband users.

T-Mobile has seen a 35 per cent rise in the sale of mobile dongles and USB modem sticks between the second and third quarters of the year, and now has an estimated market share of 22 per cent.

“We recognise that performance is a key enabler for our customers to access the internet anywhere and at any time they chose. We’ve removed all complexity from the Mobile Broadband story by offering unlimited usage, flat rates and non-committal tariffs that allow customers to access the service as and when they need it,” continued Gurdenli.

“Now customers have the added assurance that T-Mobile is delivering on its commitment to provide a superior Mobile Broadband experience.”

T-Mobile is currently upgrading its mobile broadband network to 7.2Mb within the M25 and in major cities, which should offer a realistic speed of up to 4.5Mb.

Michael Phillips, BroadbandChoices.co.uk product director, said: “While this is great news for T-Mobile, and for customers living in major cities, anyone in a more rural area should check each provider’s coverage before choosing a mobile broadband package.

“Signals can be patchy in the countryside or in certain parts of the country so make sure you know who provides the best coverage in your area before signing up,” he added.
