Virgin Media Boosts Top Speed
(16-03-07) - Virgin Media has announced that it will be doubling the top speed of its cable broadband service later this year. The speed of its flagship ‘XL’ service will double to 20Mb from May. (visit www.virginmedia.com)
This new speed will enable Virgin Media customers to download an MP3 music track in as little as three seconds. When it comes into effect, the XL broadband service will be the fastest widely available home internet connection in the UK. Uploading speeds will also increase to 768Kb.
Announcing the news on Thursday, Virgin Media’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ernie Cormier, said: “Our technology means we can offer an ultra-fast broadband service that our competitors can't match. For internet savvy customers who want the best broadband money can buy, our XL service is perfect for speedy downloading and uploading - whether it's music, videos, podcasts or blogs."
When the service’s bandwidth is boosted in May, there will be a small price increase from £35 per month to £37 per month.
Chris Eagle, Commercial Manager at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, commented: “This is great news for the future of super-fast broadband in the UK. But current Virgin Media customers should consider calling and haggling to avoid the price increase attached to this package.”
