What's the cheapest way to watch BT Sport?

I’m interested in getting BT Sport, but I hear it’s expensive. So what are the cheapest options? Are there ways I can watch certain channels for free?

Ray, Cardiff

Well, Ray, before we get into it, there’s no way to watch BT Sport channels for free – not legally, anyway – but we certainly don’t blame you for asking!

Thankfully, though, you can get BT Sport from all the usual major providers, including Plusnet, TalkTalk, Sky and Virgin Media, and there are ways to cut the cost of the package.

With that in mind, we’ll compare said providers so you can decide on the best option for you. Here’s everything you need to know…

What can you watch on BT Sport?

The BT Sport package consists of four channels:

  • BT Sport 1
  • BT Sport 2
  • BT Sport 3
  • BT Sport ESPN
  • Box Nation

Across these channels, you’ll be able to watch exclusive Premier League Matches, UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches, plus rugby Champions and Challenge Cups, UFC and Moto GP.

If you prefer to watch your favourite sport on the move, you can do so through the BT Sport app. It’s available with BT broadband packages and BT Mobile contracts.

In addition, you can now also watch BT Sport via the app on iOS, Android, Samsung Smart TV, Chromecast, X Box One, PlayStation 4 and Apple TV.

What’s the cheapest way to watch BT Sport on TV?

Typically, the most cost-effective way to get BT Sport is to get a BT Broadband package, and add BT Sport as an extra. Problem is, you won’t be able to watch on your TV – only on a computer, via the smartphone app.

That means it might not be the best choice for you. If you’d prefer to watch sport the right way, you’ll need a pay TV package.

Naturally, special offers can reduce prices significantly. Compare deals to see the latest bargains.

How to watch BT Sport with TalkTalk

With TalkTalk, you can add all five BT Sport channels for £29.99 per month.

If you take out a 12-month contract, you’ll need to pay a £20 activation fee or, alternatively, you can opt for a one-month contract for the same price and pay a £35 activation fee.

How to watch BT Sport with Plusnet

If you’re a Plusnet customer, you get access to BT Sport Lite via its set-top box package, YouView, as standard – just give Plusnet a call to add it on.

Want access to the full BT Sport package? For £10 per month, you can watch all the main BT Sport channels as well as access to BT Sport’s HD online player. And to watch BT sport in high-definition on your HD TV costs £13 per month.

If you’re a Sky TV customer with Plusnet broadband, you’ll be able to add BT Sport for an extra £9.99 per month. And if you want to watch in HD, it’ll cost £12.49 per month.

How to watch BT Sport with Virgin Media

Virgin Media customers can get both BT Sport and Sky Sports together, in one package – though it’s not the cheapest option. At the time of writing, it costs £18 a month to get just the BT Sport package with Virgin Media, and this includes HD channels, too.

Bear in mind, though, Box Nation is not available on Virgin Media – for that, you’ll need to pay an extra £11 per month. Still, Virgin Media customers will get the BT Sport 4K UHD included for free.

How to watch BT Sport on Sky

To watch BT Sport on Sky, you’ll need to add it by contacting BT.

It costs £35 per month for those who don’t already have Sky Sports, and £25 per month for those who do. Check out our handy guide to find out exactly how to add BT Sport to your Sky package.
