Samsung Galaxy S6 features

Samsung Galaxy S6

Exterior

Samsung's sixth generation handset is the first to down the much-maligned plastic exterior in favour of a high quality metal and toughened glass case. Finally, Samsung has produced a handset with an outside to match the inside.

Damage resistant

The glass screen is made from extremely tough Gorilla glass. It's resistance to damage is the best on the market, which means that there's less chance you'll have to get the screen replaced anytime soon. Just don't go throwing it out the window to test this, please!

Screen and battery

With a crisp 5.1in Quad HD (1440x2560) display, the Samsung Galaxy S6's great for watching videos, movies and TV shows on your device. If youarea big fan of catching up on the likes of House of Cards or Game to Thrones on mobile, you'll know only too well how much these activities can drain your battery. Samsung fans won't be pleased to learn that the S6's batteries are not removable. That's the price you pay for having a slim 6.8mm phone. The battery life's pretty average too (up to 18 hours) - the downside to such vibrant high-res display we're afraid.

Charging

In an attempt to deal with one of the biggest first-world problems, Samsung has introduced the 10-minute charge. For those of us who forget to charge your phone until the last minute, simply use the Galaxy S6's wall adapter to get up to four hours extra usage from a ten-minute charge. Perfect for when you're rushing out the house and need a bit of extra phone-juice. The Samsung Galaxy S6 also comes with built-in wireless charging so you can charge the phone without plugging it in. You'll have to buy a wireless charging pad though, sold separately for around £30-£40.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S6 boasts a 16 megapixel (MP) HD camera, and comes with enhanced optics and performance - after all, it's notallabout the megapixels. The image stabilisation is fantastic at reducing blur and budding photographers will love the picture quality, which is clear even in low-light conditions, thanks to the phone's F1.9 aperture. Press the home button twice and you'll trigger a neat little function that gets the camera up and running in seconds.

Key features:

  • Weight: 138 grams
  • Operating system: Android Lollipop
  • Memory: 32G, 64GB & 128GB
  • Size (H x W x D): 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm
  • Camera: 16MP HD
  • Display: 5.1" Quad HD (2560X1440) Super AMOLED
  • Wireless charging capabilities

Where can I buy the Galaxy S6?

As you'd expect, the Samsung Galaxy S6 could come at quite a hefty price. If you buy it SIM free it'll cost you around £599.99 from Samsung directly. Alternatively, you can get it from a number of different mobile networks on contracts which could be a much more affordable.

The people's verdict:

An absolutely incredible handset in comparison to the rest of the market right now. After getting hands on with the Galaxy S6, it truly feels unbeatable. The Galaxy 6 Edge is a bit flashier but this comes at a premium cost. For my money, the 32GB Galaxy S6 is more than enough.
