The iPhone 14 Plus sticks with the blueprint laid out by its predecessor, the iPhone 13. It has the same powerful A15 Bionic Chip, as well as the same design, Super Retina XDR OLED display and dual camera system.

In fact, the main difference is size: the iPhone 14 Plus provides a larger 6.7-inch screen for better viewing.

Nevertheless, Apple has refined some features, such as improved low-light photography. And there are some new safety features: Crash Detection, which detects if you’ve been in a crash and contacts emergency services, and Emergency SOS via satellite, which will connect you to emergency services via text even if you have no signal.

Availability and price

The price of the iPhone 14 Plus at launch is £949 for 128GB, £1059 for 256GB and £1279 for 512GB.

It was available to pre-order from 9 September 2022.

Design

The iPhone 14 Plus looks pretty much the same as its predecessor, 2021’s iPhone 13. It keeps the dual diagonal camera array on the back, as well as the same notch size on the front.

It has the same Ceramic Shield front, glossy glass back and aluminium wraparound frame. The main difference comes down to size: the iPhone 14 Plus combines the design of the regular iPhone with the larger size of the Pro Max.

It comes in five colourways: Blue, Purple, Midnight (black), Starlight (white) and Product Red.

Camera

Like the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Plus keeps the dual camera system as the previous iPhone 13: one main 12MP lens and one 12MP Ultra Wide.

Still, there are some upgrades worth mentioning. A larger sensor with larger pixels produces brighter images with less noise. And Apple’s Photonic Engine computational photography software means better low-light performance, capturing more detail in challenging shooting conditions.

For better selfies, the new TrueDepth front camera comes with a wider f/1.9 aperture and autofocus.

There’s also a new Action mode for video, which stabilises shaky handheld videos.

Is the iPhone 14 Plus worth buying in 2024?

Released in September 2022, the iPhone 14 Plus is currently part of Apple’s latest line-up. If you’re keen to get your hands on the most up-to-date tech, it’s well worth considering – particularly if you have an older phone or want a bigger screen.

On the other hand, if you have a phone from the previous year – the excellent iPhone 13, for example – the updates are likely too minor to warrant an upgrade. In which case, it’ll be better to wait to see what the iPhone 15 has in store.

What’s the difference between iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 13?

The iPhone 14 Plus doesn’t deviate too much from the previous year’s iPhone 13.

It keeps the same A15 Bionic chip, design and dual camera set-up. The main differences are some new safety features (Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite), improved low-light photography and, of course, the larger screen size.

Can I get the iPhone 14 Plus with poor credit?

At the time of writing (September 2022), it’s one of Apple’s latest releases. Therefore, it’s highly likely that you’ll need to pass a credit check before networks will approve you for a pay monthly phone contract.

If you have a bad credit score, the best way to get an iPhone 14 Plus is to save up and buy it outright, then get a cheap SIM-only deal to go with it.
