Design

Fan of a bigger smartphone? You’ll be over the moon with the P30 Pro’s reported curved, 6.5-inch OLED display with tiny bezels and notch. Moreover, early leaked renders point towards an in-display fingerprint sensor under the phone’s screen that adds to the device’s minimalist look. Similarly, the Chinese telecoms giant remains conservative with style - the device is reported to come in three colours: Black, Twilight and Aurora.

According to some rumours, the P30 Pro will also boast a 3.5mm headphone jack, which shows Huawei aren’t ready to follow in the footsteps of Apple and go down the wireless headphones route just yet.

Finally, pundits reckon the P30 Pro will sport three vertically aligned cameras at the back of the device - more on those below.

Specs and features

Under its polished, slick design, the P30 Pro is rumoured to contain some seriously cutting-edge tech. Indeed, to power all of its improved features, the handset will reportedly feature a Kirin 980 processor - Huawei’s most powerful chipset to date.

Here’s everything else we know:

  • Battery - apparently, the P30 Pro will sport a mammoth 4,000mAh battery with wireless charging capabilities.
  • Camera - unlike the standard version, the P30 Pro will feature a 24 MP selfie camera, and three vertically aligned cameras at the back. There’s no word on megapixels right now but we are hearing reports that the Huawei will include 10x optical zoom features for the rear-cameras.
  • Storage - memory-wise, the phone is reported to offer 256GB of storage and up to 8GB of RAM. To put that into perspective, that’s enough space for thousands of pictures and hundreds of hours’ worth of video.
  • 5G capabilities - Huawei have long hinted at a smartphone with 5G capabilities, and its Vice Chairman recently stated that this year would see the release of its first 5G smartphone. Will the P30 Pro be the first Huawei to feature 5G capabilities? Watch this space.

Cost

Rumours suggest the P30 Pro will probably cost around £899, although nothing has been confirmed yet. One thing we can be sure of, though, is that even for a Huawei handset it won’t be cheap.

Fortunately, if you can’t afford to fork out that much in one go, pay-monthly contracts are a great way to spread the cost.

Release date

The phone will be officially announced in Paris on March 26, and it’s expected to go on sale sometime in early April.

Verdict

Given all these rumours, we expect the Huawei P30 Pro to be an impressive handset indeed; ideal for anyone looking for a big screen, virtually zero bezel, increased battery life and a slightly smaller price-tag than other flagship handsets.

All that said, as with most brands, the release of a new flagship handset will often mean some great deals on older smartphones. To that end, if you’re after another Samsung phone with a lot to offer, why not check out some great deals on the Huawei Mate 20 series.
