Virgin Media offers 30Mb broadband boost

Even faster broadband from Virgin Media? Upgrade to the new 30Mb broadband package for superfast downloads.

Cable provider Virgin Media is offering customers the chance to upgrade their 20Mb XL broadband to a new 30Mb service launched today.

Customers on the XL broadband package will be able increase their speeds by 50% at no extra monthly cost, said the provider.

Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, said: "As consumers continually demand more and more from their broadband, the unique power of our next-generation network means that we're able to turn up the dial to meet their needs.

"With so many devices connecting to the internet at home these days, our new 30Mb service will give Virgin Media families that extra boost needed to make everything run smoothly, with speeds that don't slow down depending on where you live."

The provider has even cut the cost of its XL package from £20 to £18.50 a month when you take its phone line as well, though there will be a one-off £30 charge to cover activation and an upgrade to Virgin Media's Super Hub router.

New customers will pay the standard £40 connection fee, plus the additional one-off £30 charge to get connected.

The package also offers faster 3Mbupload speeds and "unlimited broadband" downloads, subject to a fair usage policy.
