Hyperoptic brings ultrafast internet speeds to London.
Thousands of UK homes are getting a massive broadband speed boost, as fibre provider Hyperoptic announces it has passed a significant milestone.
Delivering speeds of up to 1Gb - over 100 times faster than the current UK average - Hyperoptic's ultrafast connections have been installed at 30 new developments across 12 London boroughs. It means the company's network now extends to over 10,000 properties.
Boris Ivanovic, Hyperoptic's founder and chairman, said: "It's widely understood that the UK is one of the biggest users of technology, with the internet contributing more to its economy than any other country in the world.
"Having infrastructure to support this growth is paramount, although previously the focus has only been on hitting coverage, meaning the UK doesn't make the top 15 countries for broadband speeds."
Instead of trying to make its 1Gb broadband as widely available as possible, Hyperoptic concentrates on densely populated urban areas, giving customers in those areas ultrafast internet access that would currently be very difficult to roll-out on a large scale.
The fastest widely available broadband is Virgin Media's 100Mb connection - in the process of being upgraded to 120Mb - although it is only accessible via the cable provider's network, which covers about half the country.
Hyperoptic's 1Gb broadband is available in parts of Barnet, Chelsea, Croydon, Fulham, Greenwich, Hammersmith, Hounslow, Kensington, Lambeth, Newham, Southwark and Tower Hamlets.
