Virgin Media adds TV Anywhere channels

An extra 21 channels for customers to watch online by streaming live or on-demand with a PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Virgin Media has added more TV channels to its streaming platform Virgin TV Anywhere.

The free online service, which can only be accessed by Virgin Media customers, now includes 21 additional channels ranging from Channel 4 to Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and MTV.

With TV Anywhere, customers can enjoy the TV channels in their Virgin Media package online by either streaming programmes live or 'on demand' with a PC, iPad or iPhone.

Virgin Media's Scott Kewley said: "We know our customers love being able to watch whatever they want at a time that suits them, and by adding 21 live channels to Virgin TV Anywhere at no extra cost we're enabling them to watch their favourite shows wherever they want to."

However, it's worth noting that Virgin TV Anywhere does not support 3G or 4G streaming, so a fixed-line home broadband or Wi-Fi connection is required to use it.

Among the new channels are Animal Planet, Cartoonito, Channel 4, Discovery Channel, Dmax, More 4, MTV, Nick Jnr, Nickelodeon, Quest, Sky 2, Sky Arts 1, Syfy and the Universal Channel.

They join a wide-ranging list of TV channels already available either live or on demand through Virgin TV Anywhere streaming. These include: Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, Disney Channel, ESPN Classic, National Geographic and Sky 1.

"Whether you're looking for something to keep the kids happy, an enthralling drama or a cutting-edge documentary, the new line-up on Virgin TV Anywhere really does have something for everyone, " said Kewley.

The majority of TV Anywhere channels are available live online and on Apple iOS devices, while a few offer only an on-demand service. The service is expected to reach Android devices later this year.
