Samsung Galaxy S4 smashes sales records

The latest premium smartphone from South Korean manufacturer Samsung has broken sales records set by its predecessor, the bestselling Galaxy S3.

Since its release at the end of April, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has sold more than 10 million units worldwide, becoming the world's fastest-selling smartphone ever.

Facebook phone to be ditched?

The first dedicated Facebook phone, the HTC First, is unlikely to ever go on sale in the UK after being pulled from shelves in the US because of disappointing sales.

In a statement, HTC said it had "listened to feedback" from users of the device - the first smartphone to have Facebook Home software pre-installed - and would "hold off" from launching it in Europe, which could mean the handset will be dropped altogether.

Free Wi-Fi switched on in Hull

People in Hull, East Yorkshire, now have access to high-speed wireless broadband while out and about in the city centre. Local telecoms provider KC is installing free Wi-Fi hotspots in the city's ageing public telephone boxes.

Superfast fibre for 97% of Staffordshire

Fibre optic broadband will soon be available to almost every home in Staffordshire as part of a £27million deal between BT, the government and Staffordshire County Council. Around 97% of households should gain access to superfast broadband by spring 2016.

BBC iPlayer support for more Android tablets

The BBC has issued a new version of its BBC iPlayer app for Android, making it compatible with 10in tablets like the Google Nexus 10 for the first time. Bigger devices, however, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, will still be redirected to the website version of iPlayer.
