Superfast Cymru brings fibre to Ynysddu

The Superfast Cymru programme remains on course to make fibre optic broadband available to 96% of properties in Wales by 2016. The latest area to be connected to the superfast service is the small remote village of Ynysddu.

Ynysddu homes and business premises are now able to take full advantage of the more impressive download and upload speeds.

Businesses will see increased productivity, with faster, more reliable online communication. It will also be popular with large families - fibres great for supporting multiple users at the same time. It's also great for streaming films and downloading music.

Superfast Cymru is a partnership between the Welsh and UK government, BT and the European Regional Development Fund. The planners call it the "most ambitious" programme in the UK and aim to make Wales a "truly digital nation" over the course of the next two years.

Julie James, deputy minister for skills and technology, said: "Superfast broadband has the ability to change the way we live our lives. From accessing entertainment and communicating through social media to how businesses interact with customers and how we use public services."

If the Superfast Cymru programme is successful, it will mean that Wales will be well ahead of other parts of the UK in relation to the rollout of superfast connections.

The scheme's director, Ed Hunt, added: "Through BT's own commercial roll-out and now with Superfast Cymru we are taking world class speeds the length and breadth of Wales, including rural and urban areas."
