Spotify has launched a new feature for discovering new music. ‘Discover Weekly’ will generate a two-hour playlist for you every week, with recommended tunes based on your listening habits from the previous week.
The mixtape will update every Monday morning, populated by songsyou've been playing that week, along with music that other userswith similar taste have been listening to as well.
The new feature launches just a few weeks after the arrival ofApple Music, which has already introduced its own curated playlistsvia the 'For You' section that sits prominently on the home screenof the service.
Spotify already has a range of music discovery features, including extensive playlists, but it hopes Discover Weekly willprovide something more personal. It claims the song selection issimilar to "having your best friend make you a personalised mixtape every single week."
The first Discover Weekly playlists are expected to be availableon Monday and will then be refreshed every week thereafter. They'llbe available to both free users and subscribers, and can beaccessed on Spotify from anywhere, including smartphones, tablets, and computers.
Spotify vice president of product, Gustav Soderstrom, said:"High Fidelity's Rob Gordon had it right - the making of a mixtapeis a very subtle art. That's why we created Discover Weekly. There's never been a simpler, more personalised way to discovermusic, with every playlist tuned just to you every singleweek."
The updated app is expected to rollout on Android, iOS, desktop, and the web in the next few days.
