Apple releases hideous new iPhone battery case

Apple has released a ‘smart’ phone case for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s that adds several more hours of battery life. But there’s a caveat: it has a big ugly bulge on the back.

Smart battery-charging phone cases have been around for some time, but this is Apple's first crack at creating one. The case has an entire extra 1,877mAh battery embedded into it that can add up to 25 hours' more talk time to your iPhone - or up to 20 hours of video playback, or 18 hours of 4G internet browsing, Apple claims.

It's an ideal solution for those of us who use our mobiles on the go for a long time and really push the battery life to its limit.

The thing that makes Apple's case more 'smart' than others on the market is that it's integrated into your iPhone notifications. A swipe down shows you the battery level for the case as well as the phone, and when it's charging, the indicator on the lock screen displays how much charge both batteries have.

The other thing that makes it quite literally stand out is the massive rectangular bump on the back. While most cases like this one are as slimline as possible, just like iPhones themselves, Apple has instead opted for a wrap-around case that looks like someone took an extra battery and glued it on. If you bristled at the camera lens sticking out on the iPhone 6s, you may want to sit this one out.

The iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case is on sale now for £79.
