Samsung may have had a difficult few months, what with incendiary disaster that was the Galaxy Note 7, but it’s not all bad news for the company. The Galaxy S7 edge has been awarded Best Phone of 2017 at the Pocket Lint Awards.
Samsung's flagship handset beat out strong competition, including the newer iPhone 7, to win the award from the gadget news and reviews site. Reviewers singled out its curved edge as helping it stand out from both the competition and Samsung's other products.
Pocket-lint's Rik Henderson praised the S7 edge highly, saying:
"Samsung might have had its troubles recently, but there's no denying this is an amazing device. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is a fantastic smartphone in its own right, but it's the S7 edge that turns heads; this is the smartphone that's calling for attention; this is the handset that's unique."
Samsung wasn't the only winner. Sky also triumphed, picking up the award for Best Home Entertainment Device for Sky Q. The high-end TV service, which launched this year, allows for seamless viewing around the house and was so well considered by the judging panel that it even beat the mighty Netflix.
Apple did see some success, with the Apple Watch Series 2 and MacBook winning Best Smartwatch and Best Laptop respectively. And in gaming, Sony was dominant - the excellent PlayStation VR won Best VR and Uncharted 4 was voted best game over Pokemon Go.
Overall though, the Best Gadget award went to Amazon, for its Echo smart speaker.
