Channel 4 announces One Born Every Minute spin-off

Channel 4 is set to air a new spin-off of the popular One Born Every Minute. First Time Fathers - that's a provisional name - will explore the experiences of new dads as they embrace fatherhood and the responsibility it brings with it.

Each of the episodes in the six-part series will be five minutes long and will premiere on C4's online 'Shorts' section, which provides original bite-sized shows on demand. It's set to run alongside the seventh series of One Born Every Minute when it returns to screens next year.

C4's commissioning editor for its factual multi-platform, Lizzy Keene, hopes First Time Fathers will inspire the same "warmth, humour and emotion" as One Born Every Minute. The series has been hugely popular with critics and viewers since it was first aired in 2010, winning a BAFTA for best factual series later that year.

First Time Fathers will offer a "fresh and endearing perspective" as it will focus entirely on the experiences of new fathers. Dragonfly and Shine will produce the series, which they hope will highlight the common challenges of becoming a new parent.

Shine Group joint managing director, Lucinda Hicks added: "One Born has an incredibly active and engaged online community and we are continually looking for innovative and entertaining ways to speak with these existing audiences as well as widening out the conversations."

First Time Fathers will feature alongside a growing collection of short-form content on C4's Shorts web page. These ad-funded clips include a Made In Chelsea spin-off called Educating Binky and several other commissions, including Two Players from Lemonade Money.
