Freesat launches new Wi-Fi connected set-top box

Freesat has launched new set-top box that includes built-in Wi-Fi. The Humax 1100s lets you record, pause and rewind TV, and access a wealth of apps and catch-up services, including All 4 and Demand 5.

The new Freesat box model is available in three storage options- 500GB, 1TB and 2TB, which will retail for £190, £220, £270,respectively. Customers will need a satellite dish to connect tothe Freesat service, but there are no monthly fees, so users canwatch 200 TV and radio channels and 11 HD stations for free.

The new box also includes Freesat's Freetime service, whichfeatures all of the major terrestrial catch-up platforms such asITV Player and BBC iPlayer, plus a seven-day roll-back TV guide anda recommendation service called Showcase.

The set top box is an improvement on older models in that it canconnect to the web via Wi-Fi, although it is still possible to setup a wired connection using an ethernet cable. It's also morestreamlined and available in glossy white and black finishes.

Humax Commercial Director Graham North said: "With theever-increasing consumer demand for the connected home, there wasan absolute necessity to incorporate Wi-Fi within the new HumaxFreesat Freetime family."

Freesat Marketing Director Paul Gilshan added: "We're proud tolaunch a compact and low-cost recorder that gives consumers anaffordable alternative all for a one-off cost with no monthlysubscription."
