Gary Lineker might host Match of the Day in his pants

The BBC has announced the return of Match of the Day to celebrate the start of the new Premier League season, and Gary Lineker is back - though perhaps with a slight change of wardrobe.

The nation's favourite footballer-turned-crisp-merchant joked last season that if Leicester won the title, he'd present this season's opener in his underwear… and it sounds like he just might follow through.

"With the Foxes going on to claim a shock win, will Gary be true to his word?" the BBC teased rather cryptically in a press release. "Tune in this Saturday to find out."

Match of the Day returns tomorrow, Saturday 13 August, at 10.30pm on BBC One, just in time for the Premier League to start up again.

As well as good old MotD, Gabby Logan will also present The Premier League Show mid-week, to have a chat about the latest games and interview some of the biggest League stars. It kicks off on Thursday 25 August on BBC Two, when Logan will be joined by former striker Ian Wright.

Lineker will host a standalone feature on the programme too, which will see him meet Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp on the 25th.

For the 2016/17 season, we can also look forward to MotD2, MotD2 Extra with Mark Chapman, an extended Football Focus with Dan Walker, and Final Score with Jason Mohammad.

As for women's football, the Beeb will cover the England v Estonia Euro 2017 qualifier on 15 September, and will bring back The Women's Football Show from 29 August.

All the BBC's favourite football will be covered via its digital services too, via the BBC Sport website and app. It'll include news alerts and score alerts for over 150 UK teams, daily football updates, predictions, analysis, and a live page for every single Premier League match complete with five integrated commentaries.

To keep up with the men's Premier League, look out for matches on the BBC, Sky Sports, and BT Sport services.
