Sense8 second series and Christmas special dates confirmed

Wachowski fans rejoice - a second series and a special Christmas episode of Netflix original Sense8 are on their way, with the Christmas special landing very soon indeed.

The show's official Twitter account confirmed that the Christmas episode will be available to stream on Netflix on 23 December, while the new 10-episode series will arrive all at once on 5 May 2017.

The show follows the lives of eight people across the world who are all 'sensates', meaning they're suddenly deeply connected in a mental and emotional way.

The new series will pick up right where the first season left off, Netflix says, seeing Capheus, Kala, Lito, Nomi, Riley, Sun, Will, and Wolfgang "come together both physically and mentally, plunged into the middle of each other's tragedies and triumphs.

"On the run from Whispers, and forced to question their very identity, it's a matter of survival as the Sensates must find a way to live with, understand and protect one another against all odds." Sounds intense.

As for the one-off Christmas special, Netflix has a synopsis for that as well: "The journey continues as these eight singular hearts and minds weave in and out of each other's lives finding deeper connections, learning darker, more desperate secrets about one another and struggling to identify with more than just oneself."

Nice and festive then.

That's not all the streaming service has lined up for us, however. Its content chief Ted Sarandos says it intends to create double the amount of original content next year - including 20 unscripted shows, and stuff that's "more likely to travel internationally".

Netflix is available online, and via smartphone, tablet, streaming stick, smart TV, set-top box, and games console apps.
