TalkTalk’s big TV upgrade rolls out next week

TalkTalk has announced that it will deploy improvements to customers’ YouView boxes next week. The update will add new features, including new ways to find shows to watch, and support for a companion app.

The update will start rolling out from 28 November. Once it's installed, you should notice a noticeably different interface, with image-led navigation and useful shortcuts to popular TV shows and apps like Netflix.

There's also a new 'More TV' area on the guide. Navigate to this, and you can easily see extra sports, kids and entertainment channels that are available - for an additional monthly fee, naturally. It's also a fast shortcut to popular TV and movies to rent - for example, you'll initially see Jason Bourne and Finding Dory, as well as Game of Thrones.

If you head over to the Apple or Android App Store from 28 November, you'll also be able to download the TalkTalk TV Planner App. This lets you set reminders or recordings from your mobile, wherever you have an internet collection - even if you're out of the house.

New features aside, you'll see general performance improvements to your YouView box. For example, apps like BBC iPlayer will now load quicker than before - and considering that YouView could be a little on the sluggish side, that's sure to be a welcome change for many users.

If you're worried about losing your recordings when you update your box, don't be. TalkTalk says that all those precious episodes of Planet Earth II will still be ready to watch when the update has installed.

Aleks Habdank Managing Director of TalkTalk TV, said: "We're passionate about finding new ways to bring our customers the best quality products and services at an unbeatable price. The way we watch TV is constantly evolving and our customers now want to mix and match between popular shows on the likes of the BBC and ITV; rent a movie every now and then; binge watch Netflix boxsets; or dip in and out of extra Sky Sports, kids or entertainment channels.

"We've been working tirelessly to exceed our customers' needs, that's why TalkTalk TV gives you access to a full range of the best TV, all in one place, and better still without a lengthy contract. It's TV on your terms and we're firmly becoming the smart choice for savvy households."
