Virgin Media TiVo gets smart search updates

Virgin Media is ready to roll out a software update to its TiVo boxes, which will make it easier to search for and save your favourite shows on the service.

It'll introduce a feature called Series Link+ - an upgrade on the current Series Link, which finds all episodes of a programme on live TV. With Series Link+, however, it'll also pull episodes from on demand, catch-up, box sets, and streaming services like Netflix, and put them in a single folder.

It's also rolling out 'smart search': when you type in the start of a programme name to search for it, TiVo will look in on-demand and catch-up services for it.

Then there's the 'continue watching' feature, which remembers where you were on an on-demand or catch-up programme, and lets you pick up where you left off.

And finally, bookmarking, which allows you to save your favourite programmes and episodes so you can find them later. That goes for shows on live TV, on-demand, Netflix, and so on - they'll all be accessible through a special folder.

David Bouchier, Virgin Media's chief entertainment officer, said: "This update gives our box an even more intuitive intelligence while, crucially, retaining many of the familiar features we know our customers love. Series Link+ takes the convenience of finding and saving series to the next level by breaking down the divisions between traditional TV and on demand programming."

The update will roll out to TiVo boxes automatically over the next few weeks.
