Broadband options
Broadband type Fixed-line broadband is available either as standard (ADSL) broadband, or fibre optic. Fibre optic broadband is much faster and more reliable, but it isn’t available everywhere and can cost more.
Monthly usage allowance The amount you download determines the broadband package you should get. To keep things simple, we ask if you would like to see packages which are unlimited. These packages are ideal for users who are online for several hours during the day, or use the internet extensively for entertainment - like downloading movies and TV, streaming entertainment, or playing games. They are also good for large households where several people go online at the same time. If that sounds like you, pick ‘Just unlimited’.
Minimum speed Your broadband speed determines how fast web pages load, files are downloaded, the time streaming video takes to buffer, and more. For a big household, or one where you stream lots of video or play games, a fast speed is recommended

About Sky Witness

Good news for ‘whodunnit’ fans - Sky Witness is jam-packed with hit US courtroom dramas and thrillers.

Formally Sky Living, this incarnation of the channel has done away with reality TV shows like America’s Next Top Model, and, as its name suggests, is exclusively home to suspenseful crime dramas like Criminal Minds and Elementary.

There are three channels available: Sky Witness, Sky Witness +1, and Sky Witness HD.

What can I watch on Sky Witness?

Most of the shows available will come from the US, so, if you’re expecting plenty of Agatha Christie style affairs set in the placid countryside, you’ll likely be disappointed.

Drama includes Criminal Minds, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Madame Secretary, The Good Doctor as well as Instinct, and a brand-new show: The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair.

How do I get Sky Witness?

Most of the UK’s pay TV services have packages that include Sky Witness. Here’s how you get it:

Sky

Unsurprisingly, Sky Witness is available with Sky TV - though if you want to see Johnny Lee Miller being all suave and clever in stunning high definition, you’ll need the Sky HD add-on. Everything is available with Sky On Demand as well, and you can watch it anywhere with Sky Go, which is free for all Sky customers.

Virgin Media

Virgin Media includes Sky Witness in its Mix TV package, though, again, you’ll have to splash out for the higher-tiered Full House TV for the HD version of the channel.

You’ll find it on Virgin TV Anywhere too, so you can watch it live and on demand from any device if it’s included in your package.

TalkTalk

With TalkTalk, you’ll get Sky Witness included as standard if you choose the TV Plus package. If not, you can still get it with the TV Select boost.

Now TV

Finally, you can get it with Now TV, via a dedicated set top box, streaming stick, or web browser. NOW TV is also available through YouView boxes - which is the only way you can get Sky Witness with a BT TV subscription.

FAQs

  1. How do I switch to a new TV service?
Switching TV services is a breeze if you use a comparison service like ours. Simply enter your postcode, and we’ll list all your different options side by side, so you can easily compare features and price. When you find a package you like, click the link and you’ll be taken straight to the provider’s site. Once you're all set to go live, contact your old TV provider and ask to cancel your current service. Fast, simple and hassle-free.
  2. How do I get sports channels?

There are multiple sports channels in the UK, with the biggest being Sky Sports and BT Sport.

Sky Sports is available at an extra monthly cost on Sky TV, BT TV, TalkTalk TV, Virgin Media TV, and Now TV. Read our guide for more info.

BT Sport, which also includes ESPN, is available on BT TV, and for an extra monthly cost on Sky TV and Virgin Media TV. Read our guide for more info.

  3. How do I get movie channels?

Sky often has the first TV broadcast rights for big movies, so if you want to see the latest blockbusters first, you’ll need Sky Cinema - which you can get through Sky, Virgin Media, BT, and TalkTalk TV packages for an additional monthly charge.

Most TV providers also offer new home entertainment releases to view on a pay-per-view basis. Bear in mind, you may need a broadband connection to access some of these services. See our guide for more info.

  4. Can I save money by bundling TV, phone and broadband?
Yes you can. Providers like Sky and Virgin Media offer competitively priced bundles, comprising broadband, home phone and TV, and getting all three services from the same place often leads to significant savings. It also makes it easier to manage finances, as all services come on a single bill.
