iPhone 14 Pro at a glance
Quite simply, the iPhone 14 Pro (along with the larger iPhone 14 Pro Max) is the best phone Apple has ever made.
It comes with a rock solid stainless steel and glass design, protected by Ceramic Shield tech to prevent any bumps and scrapes.
The notch first seen on the iPhone X has been replaced by new cutouts housing Face ID and the TrueDepth camera, while a new Dynamic Island feature uses this part of the screen to showcase notifications.
The display itself is a stunner, twice as bright as the iPhone 13 Pro, with an Always On function allowing you to see the time and key notifications at a glance.
Throw in a beefed up triple lens camera with main 48MP shooter and Apple’s new A16 Bionic chipset and you’re looking at a truly great device.
Availability and price
The iPhone 14 Pro is available to pre-order now ahead of its full release on 16th September. It’s an expensive proposition, with a 128GB model costing £1,099 SIM free.
That rises to £1,209 for 256GB, £1,429 for 512GB and £1,649 for 1TB. You can of course choose to take out a contract to spread the cost. Just search our best iPhone 14 Pro deals now.
Design
While the design of the iPhone 14 Pro looks very similar to its predecessor, there are some key changes that make it stand out.
It’s made using surgical grade stainless steel and toughened glass, protected by Ceramic Shield. That makes it a warhorse that can handle the worst bumps and scrapes you can throw at it.
The finish is first class, as you’d expect from Apple. It looks the part and is reassuringly weighty in the hand.
Camera
The iPhone 14 Pro is loaded up with a triple lens camera. So while it doesn’t match the quad camera of its key rival, Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra, at least in terms of the number of lenses, it still has great imaging prowess.
The main lens is a f/1.78 48MP effort, with a f/2.8 aperture 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture.
The main lens packs quad pixel tech, with Apple promising two times better low light photography when compared with the iPhone 13 Pro. The flash is now twice as bright as the iPhone 13 Pro too.
The TrueDepth selfie camera is also laden with better low light tech and improved autofocus.
The main camera can also shoot 4K video at 24 frames per second, meaning it’s ideal for social media and YouTube fanatics.
Specs
The iPhone 14 Pro’s specs are a big upgrade on the iPhone 13 Pro. While the storage options of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB remain the same, there’s Apple’s new A16 Bionic chipset inside, which is designed to make performance ultra rapid.
The battery can handle 23 hours of continuous video playback on one charge, which means when it comes to day to day use it’ll last around two days without needing to find power.
Throw in the fact it can reach 50% charge using a 20W fast charger and the iPhone 14 Pro is a device built to last.
The screen is stunning, with 120Hz refresh rate, Super Retina XDR tech, brightness up to 2,000 nits in sunny conditions and a resolution of 2556 x 1179 pixels, with 460 pixels per inch.
It measures 6.1-inches, plenty for streaming video on the go.
Is the iPhone 14 Pro worth buying in 2024?
There’s no denying that the iPhone 14 Pro is one of the best smartphones available in 2022. And while it may be expensive, it’s definitely worth buying.
With iOS 16 out of the box and long term software support that should last five years or more, this is a handset that’s worth breaking the bank for.
