Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 Availability
The Z Fold5 starts at £1,749 for the 256GB model, but at time of writing, the 512GB version costs the same as part of an introductory deal. The 1TB model is £1,849.
These prices are if you buy the handset outright. You can also spread the cost of the phone out over the course of a contract and pay a small amount each month.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 comes in various colours, including Icy Blue, Phantom Black, Cream, Grey and Blue – though these last two are exclusive to Samsung.com.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 Design
This is the lightest and most compact Z Fold phone that Samsung has ever made. It’s both thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. Unfold it, and the main screen measures 7.6 inches across – that’s the size of a small tablet. Fold it back up, and you’ve got a still impressive 6.2-inch front screen to play with.
The main screen has a resolution of 1812 x 2176 pixels, while the front screen offers 904 x 2316 pixels. Both screen sizes and resolutions are the same as the Z Fold4, so it’s impressive the phone manages to be lighter and slimmer without compromising. That’s possible thanks to a new type of hinge Samsung has developed.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 Camera
The Z Fold5 has the same rear camera arrangement as its predecessor: a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultra-wide and a 10MP telephoto with a 3x optical zoom. There’s also a 10MP front-facing camera for selfies and a 4MP camera beneath the main display.
It has plenty of photography features to play with. The Z Fold5 features a night mode for making your snaps clearer in low light, while Multiple Exposure lets you combine up to nine photos into a collage-style work of art. Flex Mode lets the phone become its own tripod so you can shoot hands-free, and Dual Preview lets your subject see what you’re seeing through the viewfinder, so they can adjust their pose accordingly.
What’s the difference between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4?
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 has plenty of improvements over the Z Fold4. It’s slimmer, thanks to its new hinge, lighter, the screen is a little brighter and it has a newer and more powerful processor which helps with performance and battery life.
It also promises better image quality, even though the photographic hardware remains the same.
Is Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 worth buying now?
If you want a foldable phone, you could also opt for the Google Pixel Fold, which is a little slimmer and features a wider front screen. Some people think the Pixel Fold’s camera fares better in low light conditions too.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is another option. It’s cheaper, smaller, and has a classic ‘clamshell’ design (i.e. it flips open like a make-up mirror rather than a book). It has the same processor as the Fold5, but has less RAM (so will be a little slower), less powerful cameras and smaller screens.
For a non-foldable Samsung phone, check out the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It’s cheaper than the Z Fold5, and has a 200-megapixel camera which takes stunning photos.
Can I get the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 with poor credit?
You can if you buy the phone outright, as no credit check will be required. You could then take a cheap SIM-only deal, which also doesn’t require a credit check.
If you’re unable to afford the phone outright, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 on a pay-monthly contract with a poor credit score. This is because it’s one of the most expensive handsets available – you’ll have better luck getting approved for a mid-tier or older handset.
